Health Benefits
Of Yoga
The
health benefits of yoga can be grouped by there physical, mental, and
spiritual effects. Let's take a look at each of these
individually.
Physical
Benefits
Yoga
can help strengthen the muscles, but this is not limited to the muscles
on the outside of your body. Done properly, it will also
strengthen your internal muscles like your heart and the muscles in
your abdomen (which work your lungs).
Regular yoga practice will
also increase the flexibility and strength of your muscles, joints, and
tendons. It will give you a great cardio workout and
improve
your muscle endurance in a way that more conventional exercises like
weight training will not do.
By improving your internal systems, yoga will help with your digestion,
which will help you lose weight.
Mental Benefits
Yoga's
focus on deep breathing relaxes the body, which helps to calm and relax
the mind as well. The concentration that is acquired in a
yoga
class can also be applied to other areas of your life as well.
Spiritual
Benefits
When
the ancient yogi masters developed their yoga systems, their goal was
to be in touch with themselves and the world around them. In
the
modern world, you often spend your day around people and doing
things. However, you will often lack a sense of connection to
them and the world around you. Regular Yoga practice can help
you
feel the reality that you are not just existing, but are part of
the world.
The Health
Benefits of Yoga for Me
For
myself, yoga is fantastic for healing my body, particularly my
ligaments and joints. I like to play tennis.
However, when
I'm done, my knees often hurt (this is a legacy of all the running I
used to do). Yoga is what I do fix my knees.
Without Yoga,
I wouldn't be able to play tennis. It literally keeps me in
the
game.
Yoga also keeps me calm and focused. When I skip a
couple of classes, I definitely do not feel as alert or as good as when
I attend my classes regularly.
