Fasting for
Weight Loss? A surprisingly natural way to lose
weight.
Why is fasting for weight loss a natural way to
lose weight? Simple. Think of animals in the wild. Depending on
circumstances, they may go for days without eating. All animal's
systems have evolved over time to deal with this, including man. From
this perspective, fasting is natural. The ability to gorge your face at
anytime is a comparatively new phenomena. This is what is unnatural.
Fasting Benefits
What are the benefits of fasting? When it comes to
weight loss, the
fact that you are easily cutting your weekly caloric intake by 1/7 has
obvious benefits. Beyond that, fasting gives your digestive system a
well needed rest, and allows it time to eliminate toxins from your
systems. You will grow stronger, both physically and mentally.
Your
Metabolism will be Fine
One of the common objections to fasting is that it
will ruin your metabolism. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Although your metabolism may briefly slow
down, it will quickly recover, stronger than ever. The reason for this
is common sense. Anything you do to clean your body and systems makes
them more efficient, not less. Your metabolism will be stronger as a
result.
Listen to the
man who inspired Jack
Lalanne
An early advocate of fasting for weight loss is
fitness pioneer Paul
Bragg. Not only did he write
The Miracle Of Fasting , he was also the man who got Jack
Lalanne into fitness! He advocated many kinds of fasts,
but this is the outline for a simple fast that anyone can do.
How To Perform A 24-36 Hour Fast
- Do not eat anything for a 24 to 36 hour period.
- Feel free to drink water at anytime.
- It is best to pick a day when you are not
exercising or physically exerting yourself in any great way.
- Break the fast with a simple meal of fresh, raw
vegetables OR fruit. Not both at the same time.
- After a few hours of breaking the fast, you can
eat a more regular meal.
The last point about how to break a fast is very
important. You do not want to cleanse your system, and then hit it with
a big burger and milkshake. Your body will not appreciate this. Believe
me, I speak from experience.
My experiences with short fasts have been very
beneficial. Although fasting has worked for me, they may not be for
everyone. If you are thinking about trying a fast, you should check
with you physician first.
