Animals don't
run, go to the gym, or do the hundreds of other bizarre things (example
- thighmaster) man has come up with to stay in shape. What's
their secret? How do they maintain their incredible fitness
level?

Using only what she gave you, your own body. Think about it.
A Gorilla is 5 to 20 times as strong as any man, yet he never
lifts weights or uses an exercise machine of any kind. The
only exercise he gets is by using his own
bodyweight. Although he's doing this by instinct, in reality
he is constantly performing bodyweight workouts throughout the entire
day.
The result? Massive natural strength and endurance.
This is what all animals do, and what human beings should do
too.

Think about how we evolved. Our bodies were developed in
nature, using nothing but our own bodies and bodyweight. We
evolved over thousands of years in exactly the same fashion as our
animal brethren. However, at some point, man began to develop
his Big Brain, and that's where the trouble started.

When Man became civilized, life definitely became easier.
However, some things were lost too. Man no longer
had to hunt, or engage in physical activity at all. This is
when men and women began their long journey to becoming the sickliest
animals in nature.

At some point when it was no longer necessary to physically exert
yourself just to stay alive, the idea of "exercise" came into being.
Healthy Mind, Healthy Body was the Greek ideal. Man
began to use his mind to come up with his bodyweight
workouts. Some of these methods were fantastic and really
emphasized natural forms of trainng. However, it's in our
modern age that things really took a turn for the worse.

Human beings are constantly trying to come up with new and better ways
to do things. In most cases, this is a good thing.
However, when it comes to health and fitness, a lot of the
new ideas are simply not as good as the old. In fact, many of
our modern methods work against are natural self. Consider
the following:

healthy (or natural)"
Runners hate
it when I say this, but I stand by it. Animals
don't run. What's that, I hear you say? Of course
animals run! You just mentioned the Cheetah a page up!
Well, more specifically, animals don't run over long
distances at a moderate pace for the purposes of health. They
(quite sensibly) either walk, or run as fast as they can over a short
distance to either catch food or avoid being caught. This is
the way we evolved as well.

I'm not going to repeat myself on this, as I've written about the
negative health consequences of running elsewhere on this site.
Still, if you want evidence, just compare the physiques of
sprinters to those who run marathons. The sprinters look
young and powerful, they are fitness personified. The
marathon runners, almost without exception, look gaunt and worn out,
aged beyond their years. They typically have no fat on them,
but little muscle as well. How can anyone think this is
healthy?
"Weight
Lifting - The King of UN-Natural
Exercise"
Weight Lifting is another man made invention that makes little sense.
The whole idea behind weight lifting is based on the concept
of isolating the muscles. So, you do specific exercises to
work your biceps, triceps, glutes, etc. At this point, do I
need to point out that human beings didn't evolve exercising in this
fashion, and that natural body weight exercises might be superior?
"You want your
body to be in Balance"
When you train your body with isolation movements (like weight lifting)
as opposed to working it as a whole, your muscles are not working
together and therefore can become "out of balance". Meaning,
one muscle group can become proportionally stronger than the other.
This can lead to trouble in the real world, because, in the
real world (as in nature) you use your body as a whole.

Now, consider the most basic of body weight workouts, the pushup.
Let's say your arms are weak compared to your back.
When you do a pushup, it's your arms that will get the work.
Full body, natural body weight workouts like the pushup build
your body naturally and evenly, the way it was meant to be.
